Slow Food Waste Compost Box w/lid

by Aaron Holm / Friday, 07 February 2014 / Published in Blog

Here is a low cost, slow volume food waste compost option with lid to minimize odor.  The lid minimizes access to compost from most small creatures  accept for moles.  This grey box has no bottom.  See Food Waste Compost w/lid #2 for more illustrations.  To start, add 10 kilo’s of food waste.  Sprinkle about 1 inch of shredded paper on top.  Continue this volume daily until 1/2 full.  Allow the food waste to settle for a week.  Continue to add 10 kilo’s of food waste a week for 4 weeks.  Allow to settle for 2 weeks.  Within 6 to 8 weeks this compost will again loose 1/2 it’s volume.  Continue to add 10 kilo’s of food with a sprinkling of shredded paper weekly until full.  Allow to sit for 2 weeks.

To access ready compost slide box straight up and move dirt to garden area.
